for a 2024 full of solidarity, peace & unity in the struggle!

Dear comrades of the Defend Democracy in Brazil Committee (DDB-NY)

We wish you lots of solidarity, peace and unity in the struggle in 2024!

In 2023, and with the return of the Lula government, we were able to increase our solidarity with social movements in Brazil and continue the mobilization in New York.

A brief overview of the work in 2023:

We held street actions in February in DC and September in NY to welcome our President Lula's to the US - with Codepink, PSL, Comitê Popular NJ NY PA

We had public events with leaders from the USA and Brazil at  the People’s Forum, with UNEAFRO, ANSWER coalition, Movement 4 Black Lives, and another with Black Women’s Alliance with @Fundo Elas+, and 19 leaders of black and trans women's movements in Brazil, moderated by Margaret Kimberley from Black Agenda Report and Saidi Moseley, and support from the People's Forum

A  conversation with the Minister of Women in Brazil Cida Gonçalves about public policies for women, organized together with the Popular Struggle Committee NJ NY PA and our sister group in Florida

Co-organizing the trip with 38 leaders of organizations and movements from the USA and Puerto Rico, in partnership with The Action Lab, so they could learn from our movement leaders and elected officials too, for 8 days in 4 cities in Brazil, between Rio and SP meeting with more than 70 Brazilian leaders. This itinerary was beautifully and carefully built by our members Natalia de Campos and Gianpaolo Baiocchi in partnership with the internationalist sector of the MST, the Instituto Marielle Franco and Redes da Maré in RJ, UNEAFRO Brasil, MSTC and the ocupação 9 de julho in São Paulo. (see the full report on another post our website)

Our continued solidarity with the Palestine liberation movement - and as part of the #shutitdown4Palestine coalition, convened by The People’s Forum, ANSWR coalition and the Palestinian Youth Movement, where we are organizing the #BrazilianswithPalestinians contingent in the fight against segregation, oppression and occupation of this ancestral territory

In our interview with Professor Jimmy Green for Brazil Unfiltered in August 2023, we talk about DDB's long work since 2016 (available on YouTube bit.ly/3YBP3rs  ,  Spotify bit.ly/3KHhI8w , Apple Podcasts bit.ly/3OXdPPw  and Deezer bit.ly/3OZ67nT

In 2024, we will complete 8 years of existence and we count on your support!

We can't wait to share the news with you!

A tight hug,
Natalia, Myriam, Ilion, Marcus, Thiago, Fernando, Juliana, Gianpaolo, Miguel, Talita, and the entire DDB Action extended family.
